Match Report
Shiplake College Boys-U13B vs  Maiden Erlegh School Wokingham
On: Wednesday, 28 Feb 2024
Venue: at Home

This afternoon the U13B squad enjoyed a robust warm-up as a late arrival delayed kick-off by 25 minutes. With several core players out this afternoon we began with a good shape and two formidable full backs (Woodward & Lane) on top form working hard and putting in good tackles feeding their wingers (Dallas and Palmer) who drove forward. Our defence held strong until two blistering runs from their powerful striker resulted in the opposition taking a convincing lead. Their coach then took him off and instructed him to play for the 'A's on the adjacent field given his overwhelmingly physical and pacey superiority. Meanwhile Morgan had the save of the match with a fingertip push round the post giving us some time to regain composure. With the midfield asserting pressure it was Webb who put away a well-executed goal shortly followed by Palmer who had been working hard to push the run of play deep inside the opposition team's half. Despite a heroic effort from Scofield, Lewis and Methven their powerful striker's return allowed him to breakaway and leave us 4-2 down at half time. Craig had a chance in the second half as did Dallas but it was the opposition who kept the pressure inside our half carving out several chances which resulted in a further two well-deserved goals. Superb work rate from Scofield and Lane today setting the tone for the training ground drills on Friday. A gritty performance today and much to reflect on ahead of the next match.
