Match Report
Shiplake College 3rd XI vs  Magdalen College School
On: Saturday, 30 Mar 2019
Venue: Away

Shiplake started as brightly as the sun in the Oxford skies: playing intelligently and scoring two well-worked goals. For the first, some beautiful exchange of passes allowed Jack Powell to pick out Max Bunting in the box. Max turned, shot and the ball ended in the back of the net off the foot of the misfortunate Magdalen defender. Being a striker, Max tried to claim the goal but the dubious goals panel has decided that it was an own goal scored by 'unknown'. The second goal was definitely Max Bunting's. Collecting a pass down the line on the left side of the pitch from Toby Head, he drove into the box, beat the onrushing goalkeeper then dropped his shoulder to evade the advancing defender before coolly slotting the ball into the back of the net.

The second half saw Isaac Beasley make his 3rd XI debut. He went up front to partner his cousin and golden boot winner, Max Bunting. Isaac put in an energetic performance and was inches away from scoring from a Callum Creighton cross. We soon started to lose our focus and allowed Magdalen to gain a foothold in the game. Their first goal came from a shot just outside the 18-yard box and their second came from the second phase of a free kick from the left edge of the 18-yard box. We managed to regain control of the game and pressed for a winner but we had to settle for the draw.

A huge thank you and congratulations for a successful season to every single player that represented the 3rd XI this season. It has been a privilege to train with you and to attend your matches.

We scored 38 goals in 10 matches and were unbeaten, 8 victories and 2 draws.
