Match Report
Shiplake College 2nd XI vs  The Oratory School
On: Saturday, 12 Jan 2019
Venue: Away

A promising first five minutes led the coaches to believe another win was on the cards. However, Oratory offered far greater strength and resilience than Cokethorpe did last week. As the half developed, Oratory saw much more of the ball and were winning more 50-50 balls than Shiplake. Some tactical changes were made and Shiplake looked more assured but still lacked a real goal threat. With 15 minutes to go, Billy Bryan was pushed from defence into attacking midfield and scored with a minute. He won headers, tackled and was tenacious. The gamble of moving to three at the back could have been foolish but Bansi and Neale upped their game and keeper Brown claimed everything. With five minutes to go, Mythen was played through the middle, collected the pass and slotted home only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. Some on the sideline felt it was 'controversial' to put it politely. However, over the course of the game a draw was a fair result. A game played with great spirit and it was entertaining to watch. Two games in the first week gives the coaches lots to work on in terms of shape and style...but two enjoyable games and everyone represented the College with pride - well done.
