Match Report
Shiplake College 3rd XI vs  Reading Blue Coat School
On: Wednesday, 27 Feb 2019
Venue: at Home

Due to the quality of the opposition, the condition of the pitch and the heat, this was undoubtedly the toughest fixture of the season so far. Therefore, it gave the team immense pleasure that we managed to secure the victory. Both goals came early in the first half from long throws into the box by the captain, Robbie Cartwright. Rory Delap would have been impressed with the distance and accuracy of the throws, Robbie. For the first, Max Bunting controlled the throw, spun around his marker and rifled into the net. The second wasn't cleared by the RBCS defence and Sam Redding made no mistake. After our 2 goals, RBCS began to control the game and put us under a lot of pressure. The Shiplake defence and goalkeeper, Ben Ferguson, had to work very hard and stay concentrated to ensure that we went into half time with a 2-1 lead. In the second half, Josh Gibson moved into the middle of the park and along with Alfie Rigby, they managed to wrestle back some control of the midfield. The quality of our play also improved as we started passing the ball on the ground. Jack Powell was unlucky not to have scored as his shot was blocked unwittingly by a RBCS defender. The best play of the game came about 5 minutes towards the end when Josh Gibson and Max Way combined brilliantly, exchanging five, one-touch passes down the left flank before Josh squared the ball. Unfortunately, Jack Powell was inches away from connecting and getting the goal his performance deserved. Special mention goes to Ben F, Robbie C, Archie B, Theo F, Josh H and Harry H for working tirelessly in defence to preserve the lead. We look forward to our next fixture at home against RGS Guildford.
